Beef Bourginon

A dish that's part fancy French haute-cuisine and one peasant food. A crowd pleaser and pares well with lashings of red wine.

Ingredients

  • steak

  • butter - 1 tbsp

  • salt

  • pepper

  • garlic - 2 cloves

  • onions

  • carrots

  • peppers

  • tomatoes

  • mushrooms

  • herbes de provence - pinch

  • bay leaves (2)

  • paprika - 1 tsp

  • red chilli flakes - 1 tsp

  • glass of red wine - 2

  • tomato paste - 1/2 can

  • balsamic vinegar - 1 tsp

Directions

  • Brown the steak with the butter, salt and pepper

  • Saute the garlic, onions, carrots, peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms with the herbs

  • Add the two glasses of red wine, the tomato paste and the balsamic vinegar

Cook at 300F for 2 hours
